REA—VIDEO Open the lab

A smaller instrument, on purpose.

Rea Video is an independent browser tool for the moment before a remake: when you have a reference you like and need to understand its cuts, frames and camera grammar.

Updated 8 Nov 2026 Independent tool

Why this exists

The open-source rea-video project showed that a video can be broken down shot by shot — not just described, but measured and routed toward a remake. It is excellent, and it asks you to install Python, ffmpeg and an agent before you can ask the first question.

This site is the zero-install front door. It does the first pass in a tab: cut list, reference frames, light and motion, and a prompt sheet. It is for the moment when you want to know what a reference is made of before you commit to an editor, a model or a shoot.

What it is

  • A browser tool that reads a local file and never uploads it.
  • A measured shot list: cuts, durations, luma, contrast, palette, estimated motion and rhythm.
  • A prompt scaffold: three variants per shot, built from the measurements plus your brief.
  • A pack: prompts, CSV, JSON, storyboard, frames and a self-contained report.
  • An independent project, with no official relationship to the rea-video CLI.

What it is not

  • Not an AI detector, and not a verdict on whether a shot is live, generated or rendered.
  • Not a frame-exact conform tool or an edit decision list for a master.
  • Not a one-click remake button, and not a prompt marketplace.
  • Not a cloud service: there is no upload endpoint, account or stored library.

Fact discipline

Every number on the site is either measured here or attributed to the project that published it. The rea-video accuracy figures are the project’s own self-reported results on its own evaluation sets; they are not this site’s claims. The demo reel is six AI-generated stills animated with ffmpeg, and the page says so. There are no invented user counts, testimonials, awards or customer logos.

If a number is missing, it is missing on purpose. “Measured, not clairvoyant” is the rule.
